Metro corridor from City Center to Sector 62 on track.

After Noida to Greater Noida, the Metro corridor between City Centre and Noida’s Sector 62 is now on track. An Indo-Chinese joint venture, Cico-YFC, has bagged the contract to construct the 6.8-km link. The construction work of the track, estimated at Rs 384 crore, is likely to begin by the second week of September, officials said on Monday.

According to Noida Authority officials, nine companies had been shortlisted after the technical bids were finalized on June 3. After the documents and qualifications were examined in detail, the financial bids were opened last month. The financial bids were successfully awarded by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) late on Friday evening.

“We are yet to receive the work order from DMRC,” said an Authority official. However, as per DMRC officials, the construction for the sanctioned track is expected to start sometime around September 15.

The cost of the Metro line will be shared on an 80-20 basis between the UP government and Centre. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 2,000 crore. Officials said the cost of the link has gone up by almost Rs 275 crore (about 15%) — they attributed this to the rise in cost of raw material and escalation in construction costs from the time the Metro route was proposed in 2012 till date.

According to DMRC officials, the contract with the company involves the civil engineering and construction work of the elevated viaduct and six elevated stations along the route. As per the alignment of the track, the Metro line will be routed over the central verge of the Master Plan Road-III from Sector 32 in Noida.

This line will extend from the existing City Centre Metro station and connect Sector 32 to Sector 62 and touch NH-24. The route will have six elevated stations at sectors 34, 52, 59, 61, 62 and Electronic City (NH-24, Ghaziabad border).

The track up to NH 24, which is expected to be complete within 36 months once construction starts, will be a major relief to people commuting within Noida and also going to Ghaziabad. It will also provide connectivity to sectors 32, 34, 35, Hoshiarpur, sectors 51, 52, 71, Greater Noida Extension Marg, Sarfabad, sectors 60, 61, 62, 63 and NH-24.Indiatimes.com
